Substitute Teacher, Kent Place School, Summit, NJ. Substitute teach as needed in an all-girls’ K-12 private school. (September 2014 – Present)

Director, Conklin Academic Skills Center, College of Saint Elizabeth [CSE], Morristown, NJ.  Directed the educational assistance center that serves over 2000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Center provided academic support and tutoring for students in all programs. Supervised developmental courses for all new undergraduate students in the areas of writing, reading, and mathematics.  Conducted all assessment of the Conklin Academic Skills Center. Recruited and trained professional and peer tutors and maintained the College Reading and Learning Association [CRLA] Tutor Certification standards. Coordinated and lead study skills workshops and worked with other campus members to develop retention initiatives for at-risk students.  Worked closely with Office of Disability Services and Education Opportunity Funding (EOF) to address students’ tutorial needs.  Engaged faculty in writing-across-the-curriculum initiatives. Administered placement testing to all first-year and transfer students.  Served on Committee on Admissions and Students’ Academic Standing, Equal Opportunity Fund Committee, and Middle States Self-Study Task Force on Student Admissions & Retention and Student Support Services.  Maintained budget-neutral management of Center. Associate Professor of English/Director of First-Year Writing, Ramapo College of NJ [RCNJ], Mahwah, NJ.  Administrated First-Year Writing Program at state liberal arts college.  Supervised all sections of College English (ENGL 180).  Hired adjunct faculty, conducted adjunct instructor teaching observations, and mentored College English faculty.  Provided oversight of the curriculum and collection of data for assessment of learning goals.  Taught College English (ENGL 180), Writing for Publication (COM 230), Creative Writing (COM 304), and First Year Seminar (INTD 101); taught Developmental Writing (WRIT 091) in Educational Opportunity Fund in 2009 summer program.  Served as member of First-Year Experience Committee, Dean’s Convener’s Council/Executive Advisory Board, Greater Expectations, American & International Studies Newsletter Editorial Board, First-Year Experience Committee, and Curriculum & Assessment Committee.  (September 2008 – December 2010)

Assistant Professor of English, Monmouth University [MU], West Long Branch, NJ.  Taught first-year composition (English 101 – 102), Persuasive Academic Writing (English 110 – 112), and honors courses. Developed and taught courses in Professional Writing I (English 240) and Teaching Elementary Writing (English 470) for new undergraduate writing minor.  Developed and Co-Piloted English 112.  Designed senior seminar (English 491) on the Female Coming of Age.  Participated in department committees in reviewing course syllabi and developing the Writing Certificate.  Assisted Director of Writing with adjunct and instructor teaching observations and mentoring.   Facilitated Writing Program in proctoring and scoring Writing Proficiency Examinations [WPE] and Placement Examinations.  Conducted WPE Review sessions for students who did not pass the exam.  Coordinated workshops for Writing Program and Writing Center on composition/rhetoric theory, pedagogy, and practice.  Served on search committees for Writing Center Coordinator (2004-2005), English Lecturers (2003-2004; 2006-2007), and Library Lecturer (2006). Assistant Professor of English/Rhetoric, Francis Marion University [FMU], Florence, SC.  Taught first-year composition (English 111-112), Writing in the Disciplines (English 200), and Advanced Composition (English 220) at a state-funded liberal arts university.  Taught English 111 in networked computer lab.  Created service-learning writing components with community agencies for English 220.  Participated in department and university committees.  Served as faculty consultant in Writing Center.  Advised English majors and minors on academic and career choices.  Served as advisor to Sigma Tau Delta and on the Swamp Fox Writing Project board.  Wrote and received 2001 South Carolina Sustainable Universities Initiative grant to design Honors 101 Seminar titled “Social Action Practicum.”(August 2000 – May 2003)

English Instructor, South Louisiana Community College [SLCC], Lafayette and New Iberia, LA.  Taught pre-collegiate writing, reading, grammar, and developmental courses (English 0091 and 0092), as well as first-year composition and composition/literature (English 1010 and 1020) and sophomore-level English writing and literature (English 2040 [American Literature II], 2070 [Business Writing], & 2090 [Women’s Literature]) courses at a community college established by the state of Louisiana in 1998.  Writing courses taught in networked computer classrooms.  As premiere faculty, designed and implemented courses, including writing master syllabi, to matriculate towards an Associate’s degree and transfer credit.  As one of two full time English Instructors, participated in SLCC’s academic planning, curriculum growth, and development of new courses and services. Interviewed adjunct faculty for hire. Designed, administered, and scored English placement exams.  Assisted in College’s writing-across-the-curriculum [WAC] program.  Advised students on academic and career choices. Served on College and Faculty committees.  (July 1998 – May 2000)

Graduate Teaching Assistant, Department of English, University of Louisiana [UL],  Lafayette,  LA (Formerly the University of Southwestern Louisiana).  Taught English courses to students at a state university.  Courses taught include Developmental English (English 90), Freshman Composition & Rhetoric (English 101), Freshman Composition & Literature (English 102), American Literature Survey [1885-Present] (English 206),  Advanced Exposition/Composition (English 360), and Scientific/Technical/Business Writing (English 365).  Designed own socially oriented syllabi for all courses.  Created service-learning writing components for English 101, 360 and 365.  Served as Teaching Fellow on the National Writing Project of Acadiana and later as a Teaching Consultant for the NWP. (August 1994 – May 1998)

Instructor, University College, University of Louisiana, Lafayette, LA.  Taught first-year English composition course at extension campus in New Iberia.  Worked closely with non-traditional students to assist them in their transition to the college classroom.  (Summer 1995)
